Prescription For Revival

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and forgive their sins and restore their land.”  2 Chronicles 7:14

Are you a Christian with a burden for the spiritual condition of the United States? Most of us are quick to condemn the government, the news media, the colleges and universities—I could go on and on—but what are WE doing to change things?  I, for one, have considered the situation hopeless and the outcome inevitable—Jesus is probably coming back any day and these things are all just signs of the times.  Does God really want us to think this way?  In the Old Testament, God was always calling Israel to return to Him. Is it any different today?  Does God want the United States to return to Him?  Is God the same, yesterday, today, and forever?  God has given us the prescription for revival in 2 Chronicles 7:14.  It says, “If MY people who are called by my name”—that means us!  We cannot blame America’s condition on unbelievers!  Christians have sat back, mutely, and watched as our country has turned from its Christian foundation.  As special interest groups made loud demands, we said nothing in protest.  We have not spoken up for God.  That is sin.  Next, we are to “humble ourselves and pray, and seek God’s face and turn from our wicked ways”—yes—OUR wicked ways.  We need to take responsibility for our failure to speak boldly for God.  We need to seriously examine our own hearts and be sure that there is no hidden sin that might hinder our prayers as we petition God to restore our country.  And we need to pray for the United States, believing that God will act—how many of us do this?  If we take God at His word and follow His prescription, God says He will do HIS part, which is to “hear from heaven, forgive our sins, and restore our land.”  That’s a promise!

We are a group of just four believers in Tampa, Florida who are convinced that God is about to do something great in America.  As we have prayed, we believe He must be raising up people in other parts of the country (or right here in Florida) with the same passion.  Does it take a huge number of people praying to get God’s attention?  I don’t think so, although we pray this movement will grow exponentially.  Matthew 18:19 says, “If two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.”

Jesus is coming back—that is a fact.  But can we still pray for revival in our own hearts and in the heart of our country?  Can we pray that more people will be brought into God’s Kingdom before He returns (maybe our own children or grandchildren)?  George Mueller once said, “Expect great things of God, and great things He will do.”
